History
A short history of the firm
In 1936, Mr. Gorter founded a technical bureau under the name Gorter BV. The Hague was chosen as the center of Gorter's business activities in industrial products such as fittings and oil valves. It wasn't until later that Gorter started selling gas pressure regulators.
It was above all the discovery of natural gas in the north of the Netherlands in the 1950s that changed the direction of Gorter's production scheme. More and more, the emphasis was put on reducing and metering instruments for the transportation of natural gas.
The Dutch authorities were only interested in complete installations for reducing and metering the transport of gas. This provided an enormous opportunity for Mr. Gorter and his associates.
After ten years of intensive research under the direction of Mr. Marechal, Gorter succeeded in developing an installation that could, in its entirety, be produced and assembled in their own workshops. A complete, newly developed installation that could, as a whole or in prefabricated sections, be connected to a natural gas network, regardless of the location.
The end of the eighties
In the late 1980s, Gorter acquired BAAI Controls and SDM Controls, both specialists in the design and marketing of equipment for distribution and transportation of gas. BAAI Controls has since the early sixties been developing a line of high-quality gas equipment such as the R064 gas pressure regulator and the famous SV086 which was the first slam-shut valve with 1% precision.
A young Dutch company, SDM Controls was founded in the late eighties to design and manufacture the first compact underground gas module, the COCON.
Today, Gorter Controls, the result of a merger of BAAI controls and SDM controls, is one of the leading manufacturers in the world of gas pressure equipment.
